Mock Trial at HSLPS
The mock trial program is an after-school program where students prepare to compete against other schools in New York City. This rigorous program takes place in high schools across the state; and should our team make it into the final rounds in the spring, we would have a chance to compete on a state level against other New York schools participating in the program in Albany in late May. Our school has partnered with Debevoise and Plimpton, one of the most prominent law firms in the country, where members of the team attend practice with the support of dedicated attorneys who volunteer to mentor our team.
Mock trial is an exciting opportunity for students to work across grade and learning levels in our school in addition to benefiting from mentorships from practicing attorneys in one of the best law firms in the country. They learn public speaking skills, build self-confidence, improve their writing, craft questions and arguments, and work together to build and argue a successful case. The team-building, work ethic, mentoring experience, and skills students acquire through this program can be invaluable both academically and personally.
A true capstone of our school's celebration of identity and diversity - completely student produced, everyone enjoys the talent, fashion, spirit and fun this show generates every spring!
Theater at GW
HSLPS students are invited to join the Washington Heights Youth Theater Company by MCC Theater on the GW Campus. Students write original pieces based on what is going on in their lives and in the world around them. The writing is then turned into an original piece of theater titled "UnCensored" that is performed every May on campus and at an off-Broadway professional theater space in the city.
